Mr. James S. Kalbus

CORPORATE SECRETARY / SENIOR CONSULTANT - ENGINEERING

Mr. Kalbus is a petroleum engineer with over 32 years of experience conducting reservoir simulation studies. His responsibilities have included all aspects of reservoir studies including classical data analysis, special core studies, geostatistical modeling, numerical modeling, and optimization of field development. Geographic areas of expertise include Mexico, Middle East, China, Indonesia, Columbia, Venezuela, and the United States. He has special expertise in special core analysis, PVT analysis, and naturally fractured, vuggy carbonate reservoirs.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1999 to Present . Senior Consultant, International Reservoir Technologies, Inc., Lakewood, Colorado

Responsibilities include managing and participating in integrated reservoir simulation studies in conventional, dual porosity, and tight gas reservoirs. Recent areas of expertise include projects conducted for WAHA in Libya and BP in Alaska. For BP simulation models were created and evaluated for 4 major reservoirs having depositional environments ranging from fractured carbonates to fluvial and deltaic systems using either black oil or composition models. Prior to Alaska, simulation models were constructed and history matched for 5 major black oil reservoirs in north Kuwait. Prior to Kuwait simulation projects, 4 projects were completed for PDVSA in the Lake Maracaibo area of Venezuela. Simulation models were constructed for 4 major blocks/fields in the highly faulted areas along the VLE400 fault. These projects were a mix of black oil and compositional models. Along with compositional modeling, WAG projects were investigated at the core, pilot, and field scales.

Recent tight gas experience includes simulation studies for the following fields: Canyon Creek and Trail fields in Wyoming, Jonah field in Wyoming, Lance formation; Uinta field in Utah, Wasatch and Mesaverde formation; Pinedale field in Wyoming, Lance formation; Gibraltar field in Columbia, Mirador formation. These studies all required extensive hydraulic fracture modeling and characterization.

1991 to 1999 - Sr. Petroleum Engineer, GeoQuest / Schlumberger Reservoir Technologies (formerly INTERA), Denver, Colorado

Primary responsibility was to conduct integrated reservoir simulation studies in black oil and gas reservoirs. Simulation studies were conducted for multiple naturally-fractured vuggy carbonate reservoirs located in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico; sandstone and carbonate reservoirs in Kuwait; sandstone reservoirs in China and Indonesia; and gas storage projects in United States. Additional responsibilities included conducting training courses for industry and in-house clients in reservoir simulation and software use.

Areas of special expertise include numerical well testing in fractured reservoirs, special core analysis in vuggy carbonates, and methods for numerical simulation of triple porosity reservoirs.

1990 to 1994 . Research Assistant, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado

Developed new experimental techniques and data reduction procedures for determining relative permeability relationships in ultra low permeability formations. Developed new experimental method for forming natural gas hydrates, which facilitated identification of kinetic inhibitors that delay or stop hydrate formation. Teaching assistant for PVT and rock properties laboratories.

1983 to 1986 . Instructor and Research Assistant, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology

Engineering Dynamics and Statics Instructor. Constructed drilling simulator and hybrid computer systems for reservoir simulation.
