IRT are in need of one, potentially two, reservoir engineers to work on various simulation oriented projects in Denver and across the world. While our primary focus is reservoir simulation, we also have an increasing need for practicing reservoir engineers to help clients work on conceptual studies, data acquisition programs and day-to-day reservoir management issues.
What makes a good reservoir simulation engineer
1. Well rounded educational / work experience background
2. Experience with analytical methods / models for;
a. Material balance (MBAL, for example)
b. Pressure transient analysis (Pan Systems or PIE, for example)
c. Vertical Flow performance (Prosper, for example)
d. Hyd Frac analysis (FracAnal or Gohfer, for example)
3. At some point in career, simulation needs to have been a day in / day out activity, not part-time
4. Aptitude for computers and computing
5. A doggedness / desire to "get to the heart / bottom" of a problem
Preferred candidate will have;
1. 10+ years working experience
2. Some exposure to multiple simulators (Eclipse, VIP, CMG or others)
3. Some exposure to many types of simulation problems
a. Black oil / compositional / thermal / EOR
b. Clastics / carbonates / tight gas / fractured reservoirs
4. Built simulation models from raw data as opposed to have run models someone else built
5. Understanding of how the "numbers" are used
6. Knowing when / how / if the "solution" fits the "problem"
Other Considerations;
At IRT, our engineers have been called upon to work in a wide variety of environments including:
• On-site in clients offices working at their direction
• Part of an Integrated Study team working in Denver
• Part of an Integrated Study team working on-site
• Standalone simulation projects working in Denver or on-site
While the bulk of our work is performed in Denver, an ability / willingness to travel is required, approximately 25% (or 3 months) over the course of a calendar year is not uncommon.
IRT are a privately held consulting firm with all professionals being offered some form of ownership in the firm. This means we make our hiring decisions very carefully. Personal recommendations – from past collaborations or professional associations – from IRT partners are highly prized.
IRT offers salary commensurate with industry standards and experience level as well as full medical, insurance and retirement benefits. Bonuses based on personal and company performance are offered as well as a company stock option plan.
